WISDOM: Remarks On The Foundational Lesson Of Democracy By Odukaesieme

Democracy Cannot Be Stronger Than The Character Of The People Who Practice It

The greatest dilemma of democracy is therefore not democracy itself, but the quality of the human beings entrusted with its freedoms, rights, institutions, and authority.

If citizens lack character, intelligence, responsibility, and a common foundation of values, democratic freedom can be manipulated by ignorance, selfishness, corruption, emotionalism, misinformation, and the pursuit of power. When this happens, democracy may gradually become a system in which numbers prevail over wisdom, popularity over competence, and personal interest over the common good.

The Way Out

One of the most fundamental solutions is to introduce CHARACTER BUILDING AND INTELLIGENCE SCIENCE EDUCATION as a compulsory and continuous component of education throughout schools and institutions of learning.

Its purpose should not simply be to teach morality as a subject, but to establish a STANDARD HUMAN-DEVELOPMENT BASELINE for every citizen.

Such education should develop:

• Character
• Wisdom
• Truthfulness
• Responsibility
• Self-discipline
• Justice
• Respect for human dignity
• Critical and independent thinking
• Emotional and social intelligence
• Respect for the rights of others
• Civic responsibility
• Leadership competence
• The ability to distinguish knowledge from wisdom
• The ability to distinguish freedom from irresponsibility

WISDOM Remarks On The Foundational Lesson Of Democracy By Odukaesieme

This would provide society with a common foundation for understanding, character, values, attitudes, and responsible behaviour.

The Super Idea: Character Before Power

My further proposition is that Character Intelligence should become an ethical foundation of democratic citizenship itself.

Before society asks, “Who has the right to rule?” it should also ask:

“Who has developed the character and intelligence necessary to exercise power responsibly?”

Democracy should therefore not be understood merely as the freedom to choose leaders. It should be understood as a SYSTEM OF RESPONSIBLE HUMAN PARTICIPATION.

The quality of democracy begins long before the ballot box. It begins with the formation of the human person.

Therefore:

EDUCATION → CHARACTER → INTELLIGENCE → RESPONSIBILITY → CITIZENSHIP → LEADERSHIP → GOOD GOVERNANCE.

If we educate the mind without forming character, we may produce intelligent people who can misuse their intelligence.

If we develop character without intelligence, we may produce good intentions without sufficient capacity.

But when intelligence is guided by character, knowledge can become wisdom, freedom can become responsibility, leadership can become service, and democracy can become an instrument for civilization and human development.

This is where CHARACTER INTELLIGENCE SCIENCE (CIS) becomes especially significant.

CIS proposes that the ultimate test of human intelligence is not merely what a person knows, but what that person does with what they know.

A truly developed democracy, therefore, should seek not merely educated voters, but CHARACTER-INTELLIGENT CITIZENS.

The ultimate objective is to create a society in which every generation receives a common foundation of wisdom, character, intelligence, responsibility, and civic consciousness.

Then democracy will no longer depend solely upon political structures. It will be supported by the quality of the human beings within those structures.

DEMOCRACY NEEDS MORE THAN VOTES.

IT NEEDS WISDOM.

IT NEEDS CHARACTER.

IT NEEDS RESPONSIBLE INTELLIGENCE.

When these become the foundation of human development, democracy can acquire a deeper meaning—one capable of enduring beyond generations.

The Future Of Democracy Depends Not Only On How We Choose Our Leaders, But On How We Develop The Human Beings Who Choose Them.
